And The Pogues Played Waltzing Matilda

I bought The Very Best of The Pogues (buy at amazon) yesterday. I bought it for many songs but my favourite is their interpretation of The Band Played Waltzing Matilda.

I was hunting around the net this morning and found that Shane MacGowan will be playing in Melbourne on Anzac Day this year. I’m tempted to get a ticket just on the off chance he may perform it on the day. Now that’d be something to hear.

When was the Commonwealth Games held in Oz? Brisbane, 82? Anyone remember Rolf Harris singing Waltzing Matilda during the opening ceremony? I’m not Aussie, but the hairs were standing up on my neck…

How creepy is that. In music today during listening time I opened up the first book I put my hand on, it fell open at “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” I proceeded to play this for the kids. The listeng time was followed by a five minute discussion on the song , which they had not heard of before and I myself had not heard for ages…….twice in the one day mmmmm creepy.
