Macro Hopper

I finally figured out the macro settings on my camera yesterday. Click the pic – my friend looks better at full size. More of him on my new Macro flickr page.

    However, that’s not a grasshopper.

    It’s a Preying Mantus. These are incredible creatures that live on other insects.If you find you have a family of these living in your garden, your really lucky as they will keep the numbers down of insects that eat your plants. I used to have a veggie garden which had a whole colony of Preying Mantus living in it. They were great to watch.

    Mind you I did feel a bit sorry for the males…. as they mate with the female, she eats him, literally!
