More on pills
It’s been so great to not have to remember to take my pill every morning. Let’s face it, I don’t have the best memory. I had an alarm on my Palm to remind me every morning!
So today, I did the supermarket shopping. I stop in the vitamin aisle. Eyes catch on the little bottle with the pink label; Folate.
Hmmm… I think, I’ve read something about this. I check the label and sure enough, it’s meant to be good stuff if you take one tablet a day for at least one month prior to getting pregnant.
Now, we’re really not trying right now, but there’s 90 pills in this bottle. If I remember to take one per day, that’s 3 months. Knowing my memory, I’ll go through this bottle in 5 months. That’s not bad. Considering it’s later this year that we’re contemplating starting the ‘trying’ period.
So much for celebrating the fact that I no longer have to remember to take a pill every day!

Yes, and Rae you should start now, to minimise the risk of neural tube defects you need to be taking folate for 3 months BEFORE conception as well as at least the first 3 months of pregnancy. This reduces your risk of having a baby with spina bifida by 90%, which is dramatic in anyone’s book.
